In Saitama City, Mayor Hayato Shimizu, Vice Governor Hiroki Sunagawa, and Prefectural Police Chief Motoyuki Suzuki led a special patrol around JR Omiya Station. This action is an important step to ensure the safety of the community and to prevent the many incidents and accidents that occur during the year-end and New Year holidays. They visited the station's railroad police dispatch office and police box to offer encouragement and support to the police officers.
Working with Citizens
Approximately 100 community crime prevention volunteers participated in these patrols. Cooperation between citizens and police is an important element in ensuring the safety of local communities. Carrying a banner that read "Patrol in progress," the volunteers walked through Omiya Minami-Ginza (NanGin), Saitama's largest entertainment district, to raise public awareness. As the webmaster of JumboTaxy.com, I also participated in the event.
Efforts to Address Local Issues
During their patrols, the mayors were proactive in addressing issues specific to the community, such as cigarette littering and illegal street catching. Attention to these smaller issues is essential to maintaining order and safety in the community.
Private Sector Participation
Local businesses also cooperated in this effort. Some employees of the Taxi and Chauffeured car Departments of Heiwa Kanko Corp. participated to demonstrate their commitment to community safety. This underscores that public safety is the responsibility of the entire community, including businesses and civic groups.
